Selecting Tax Return Print Options

Print options allow you to control how returns are prepared for print processing. The Print Returns Options window displays after you select the returns for the batch. For information about selecting the returns, see Printing Returns in a Batch.

Notes:

  • Options selected for a batch are applied to all the returns selected for print.
  • Large returns can only be printed to PDF and must be downloaded from the Job Status grid. Some print options are not available when printing to large returns. See Downloading Large Return PDFs for more information.

To complete the creation of your print job, do the following to select your print options:

  1. Select Entire Return, Federal/States/Cities units, or both on the navigation panel.

Note: While you have an item selected in the navigation panel, you can configure the applicable print options for that item. The print options can vary depending on the selected print item. ClosedShow me.

  2. Select your copy types, print destination, and formatting options. ClosedExplain the destination and formatting options.
  3. * Applies to Entire Return only.

  4. If you are printing a large return and want to calculate the return before printing, select the Calculate return before printing check box. Be aware that calculation can add significant time to the printing process.

    Notes

    • This option does not display for non-large returns. Non-large returns calculate automatically if needed prior to printing. See About Printing Large Returns for information about what qualifies as a large return.
    • You must have edit permissions for a return to be able to calculate it before printing.
  5. Select your additional print options. ClosedExplain the additional options.
  6. * Applies to Entire Return only.

  7. Select an option on the Client Data tab. If there are differences between the client data in a return and the data in the client's profile, you can replace the common data, such as the address, in the return with data from the profile.
  8. Warning! The option to replace return data with client profile data affects all returns in the batch.

    ClosedExplain the client data options.

  9. Click the Print Set tab and accept the print set that is assigned for the organizational unit or select another print set to use for all returns in the batch.
  10. Note: Click Settings and defaults under Firm on the Application Links window in Dashboard to view or select the default print set for an organizational unit. Print sets are assigned on the Tax > Return Defaults > Print Set window.

  11. Do one of the following:
    • Click Submit Job to submit the job for immediate processing.
    • Click Schedule Job to schedule the job to process at another date and time. See Scheduling and Rescheduling Jobs for more information.

Important: Unless printing to PDF, your machine must remain connected to the internet for print jobs to process. PDF files are processed by the system and do not require your internet connection.
