About Printing Large Returns
If the system identifies a return as large, the Large Return column is selected for the return on the Print Returns window. Printing large returns can take an extended amount of time. A large return must be printed by itself; you cannot select to print other returns if a large return is selected.
Large returns are locked during print processing and are unlocked when all applicable print jobs are complete. They are available to download in Batch Manager for 30 days.
What Qualifies as a Large Return?
The system identifies returns that have the following characteristics as large returns:
- All return types. A large number of depreciable assets with one or more states.
- 1065, 1041, 1120S. A large number of partners (1065 K-1s), beneficiaries (1041 K-1s), shareholders (1120S K-1s) with a significant amount of activity numbers for rentals, farms, trade / business, passthroughs, or multiple states.
- 1065. A large number of partners (K-1s) and depletion properties.
- 1120, 1120S, 1065. A consolidated return with many subsidiaries.
- 1065, 1120, and 1120S. Any of the above situations with the State and city tax accrual option selected on the Return Options > Calculation Options worksheet.
Print Options for Large Returns
The output type for large returns is limited to PDF only. A separate PDF file will be created and downloaded for each Entire Return copy type or Federal/States/Cities return type. You can download the large return PDF when printing completes.
When you select print options for large returns, you have the option to select whether to calculate the return before printing. When deciding whether to use this option, keep in mind that calculating a large return can significantly increase the amount of time required to print the return.
If you select the option to generate separate K-1 PDFs for each partner, a download link for the PDFs will be available on the Job Status window. This option is available only when you are printing the entire return and have selected to print K-1s to a PDF.
