Stopping Batch Jobs

You can stop a job that has a status of In-Process and resume it later, provided there are items in the batch waiting to begin processing. This feature is useful when the job is using a resource, such as a printer, that is needed for other tasks.

To stop a job, do the following:

  1. After submitting a job, click Refresh Job Status in the Job Management group on the ribbon to updated the status from Ready-to-Run to In-Process.
  2. Select the job and click Stop in the Job Management group on the ribbon.
  3. Click Stop to confirm your selection.

Notes:

  • Electronic filing of 1040 extensions cannot be stopped in Batch Manager. If the extensions were electronically filed using the Upload and Hold status, you can stop the filing process in the Electronic Filing Status system from the Change Status tab, provided the extensions were not previously filed and acknowledged.
  • Batch Manager processes a number of returns concurrently when processing a batch job. Because of this, the Stop command may not return the results you expect. For example, say there are 12 returns in a batch with a status of In-Process when you click Stop. An Unable to Stop message could display because all returns were being processed concurrently.
  • Your firm sets the number of days to keep job history. Jobs with a status of Stopped that have not had any activity for the period of time selected by your firm are deleted from the system. See Setting the Firm Job History Option for more information.
