Setting Your Practice Interface User Options for Tax

The Tax interface with Practice includes the ability to send time clock transaction detail for each tax return session to Practice Time Capture. Clock transaction detail then becomes WIP transactions that can be used for billing records.

User Options determine if clocks are started automatically or manually in Tax. You must have Practice installed to set Practice options.

To set how time clocks are run in Tax, do the following:

  1. Do one of the following to open User Options:
    • Select User Options on the Dashboard navigation panel.
    • Click the Application button and select User Options.
  2. Click Tax > Interface Options > Practice on the navigation panel.
  3. Select the method of starting time clocks.
    • Automatically when a new or existing return is opened. The clock starts automatically when you select New > Tax Return or Open > Tax Return in Return Manager. The clock stops when a return is closed.
    • Manually. You must start the clock manually using controls in the Tax status bar. You can stop the clock manually; otherwise, the clock stops automatically when a return is closed.
    • Important: Return configurations sets with enabled time clocks start clocks automatically, overriding this manual setting.

Note: A running clock is considered to be session activity and will prevent the system from timing out. This is true regardless of whether you are currently working in CCH Axcess or not. The exception is if your computer reaches the timeout limit while in sleep mode. In that case, your session will time out. You can review and update the power management settings on your computer to ensure that your computer does not go to sleep prematurely.

  4. Click OK.
