Sending Return and Project Status Updates to Workstream

If all of the following conditions are true, you can send project and return status updates from Return Manager or an open return to Workstream:

  • A Workstream license is assigned in your staff profile.
  • Workstream is installed on your machine.
  • The return is linked to a Workstream project. See Linking Returns to Projects for more information.

If any or all of the conditions are not met, you can update the return status, but you are not able to update the project status.

You can also add project notifications in Workstream to automatically send project status updates to other staff. For example, a notification can be added to send the staff responsible for reviewing the tax return a notice when the return status changes to Ready for Review. You can also create notifications in Workstream to inform you when the electronic filing status of returns linked to a project have changed.

Do the following to update the status:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Select a linked return in the Return Manager grid, and then click Update Status in the Workstream group on the Utilities tab.
    • From an open linked tax return, click Update Status in the Workstream group on the Manage tab.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Select the current project status. If there is more than one project linked to a return, you can select a different status for each project.
    • Select the current return status.
  3. Do any of the following:
    • Click Open Project to review or edit the project. If there is more than one project listed, you must first select a project.
    • Click Update Status to change statuses according to your selections.
    • Click Cancel to close the Update Status window without saving changes.
