Time Analysis

The Time Analysis report allows you to track and analyze production and billings by staff, billable type, or service using a defined set of grouping criteria.

Permissions Required for this Report

In the staff profile, staff must be assigned to a security group that is granted View functional rights for the following:

  • Security group profile > Functional rights > Reports > Shared Library > Shared Views
  • Security group profile > Functional rights > Reports > Firm Library > Custom
  • Security group profile > Functional rights > Reports > Firm Library > Standard > Firm
  • Security group profile > Functional rights > Reports > Firm Library > Standard > Practice
  • Security group profile > Functional rights > Reports > Firm Library > <report name>
  • Security group profile > Functional rights > Administration Manager > Client Manager > Approved Clients

Reports in Foundation that are Comparable

In Practice Management and Practice Advantage there are no comparable reports. This report is a new standard report.

Report Specifications

The following report options and filters are available to determine the report contents.

Group By

List

Determines how the report data is grouped. The options include grouping for client, staff and client responsible staff.

Client Responsible Staff

List

Determines the client responsible staff to use in the Group By option. The options are No Selection or any client responsible staff set up in Client Lists.

Hide Comma

Yes/No

Includes or excludes commas in numbers.

Hide Penny

Yes/No

Includes or excludes pennies in amounts.

Show Billable WIP Only

Yes/No

Includes only billable WIP.

Use Expense in Production Amount

Yes/No

Includes or excludes the expense amounts in production.

Include Deleted Staff

Yes/No

Includes or excludes deleted staff information.

Include Deleted Clients

Yes/No

Includes or excludes deleted client information.

Note: The Manager and Primary Partner field names are the default values defined for client responsible staff. The first ten client responsible staff List values that are defined by your firm are available field options.

Grouping

Grouping is determined in Options and Settings using the Group By setting.

There are no sorting options for this report.

Report Fields

The following fields are available for this report. The fields that display and the position of fields are based on the report's settings, grouping, sorting, and filters.

Report Fields
Field Description

ID

The ID of the sub-grouping field selected in the Group By option. For example, if Client - Staff is selected, the sub-grouping is Staff and the column will display each staff ID.

Name

The name or description of the sub-grouping field selected.

Work in Progress

Hours

The unbilled WIP hours entered for the date range selected.

Amount

The unbilled WIP amount entered for the date range selected.

Billings

Hours

The sum of the time and expense hours with a date (see Note below) in the date range entered, where the WIP has been billed and the invoice associated with the WIP is posted.

Amount

The sum of the time and expense amounts, including surcharges with a date (see Note below) in the date range entered, where the WIP has been billed and the invoice associated with the WIP is posted.

Invoice Amount

The sum of the time and expense amounts + surcharge + write up/down + net of progress with a date (see Note below) in the date range entered, where the WIP has been billed and the invoice associated with the WIP is posted.

 

Note: The dates used for Hours, Amount, and Invoice Amount are defined by the following:

  • If no date is entered or Transaction Date is used as a filter, the transaction date of the WIP to determine hours and amounts is used.
  • If Posted Date is used as a filter, the posted date of the WIP to determine hours and amounts is used.
  • If Accounting Period Date is used as a filter, the accounting period date of the WIP to determine hours and amounts is used.

Total Hours

The total WIP hours for the date range selected.

%

The percentage of total hours for the detail divided by the total hours for the group.

Total Amount

The total WIP amount for the date range selected. The calculation is production amount + billed amount.

The percentage of total amounts for the detail divided by the total amount for the group.
