Functional Rights Explained
A functional right is a permission to perform a certain task. Portal uses security roles to control which functional rights are available to individual users. The two types of security roles in Portal are administrative roles and file management roles. You can view the list of functional rights that are controlled by each type of role by clicking a link below.
Administrative Role Functional Rights
Administrative roles allow firm users to perform portal and user management tasks. A user can be assigned an administrative role if they first are granted administrative rights on the Personal tab of the User Information page. A firm user can be assigned multiple administrative roles.

Folder Templates |
Allows users to select a folder template to assign to a portal during portal creation. If no files have been added to an existing portal, this permission allows the user to change the assigned folder template for the portal. | |||
Email Notifications | Allows users to view and edit portal email notifications. | |||
Security Group Management | Allows users to create, edit, view, and delete security groups. | |||
Access Group | Allows users to create, edit, view, and delete access groups. | |||
Folder Level Permission | Allows users to apply, view, and delete user permissions for individual folders. | |||
Announcements | Allows users to add, edit, view, and delete portal announcements. | |||
Portal User Management | Allows users to create, edit, view, and delete portal users. | |||
Portal Reports | Allows users to create, edit, view, and delete portal reports. | |||
Recycle Bin | Allows users to view the recycle bin. | |||
Restore | Allows users to restore files from the recycle bin to a portal. | |||
Permanently Delete Files | Allows users to purge files from the recycle bin so they cannot be recovered. |

Append to PDF | Allows users to append a PDF file to an existing file with the same name during the upload process. | ||
Check in/out | Allows users to check out and check in files. Users can only check in files that were checked out by that same user. | ||
Cancel Check out | Allows users to cancel check-out of a file which that user has checked out. Changes to the file since it was checked out will be lost. | ||
Download | Allows users to download a read-only copy of a file. | ||
Files | Allows users to add, direct edit, view, and delete files. | ||
History | Allows users to view history of a file. | ||
Lock/Unlock | Allows users to lock and unlock files. User can only unlock files which were locked by that same user. | ||
Overwrite Duplicate Files | Allows users to overwrite an existing file when uploading a file with a duplicate name. | ||
Send as Hyperlink | Allows the user to send an email that includes a hyperlink to a file in a portal. | ||
Send to Engagement | Allows users to send files from a portal to an Engagement binder in the user's local file room (LFR). | ||
Properties | Allows users to view and edit the properties for a file. | ||
Rename | Allows users to change the name for a file in a portal. |
