Determining the Active Directory® Connection Address

By default, CCH Axcess is set to use a secure connection address. Secure connection addresses include your domain, with LDAP:// (all upper case letters) appended to the beginning, and the port number appended to the end. 636 is the default port for secure connections, but it can be modified by your server administrator.

Example: Your firm's domain is yourdomain.com. In the Connection Address field, the secure connection address using the default port displays as follows:
LDAP://yourdomain.com:636

As a best practice, we recommend using a secure connection if your server can support one. The following article from Microsoft can assist your IT staff in configuring your server to use a secure connection: Frequently Asked Questions About Changes to Lightweight Directory Access Protocol.

Reverting to a Standard Connection

If your server does not support a secure connection, you can downgrade to a standard connection. To do so, update the connection address to include only your firm's domain name.

Example:

  • Secure connection address: LDAP://yourdomain.com:636
  • Standard connection address: yourdomain.com
