Configuring Return Configuration Set Return Print Options
Return configuration sets allow you to save default options to use when processing and printing returns. Unless otherwise noted in the following procedure, you can override return configuration set print options on the General > Return Options > Processing Options worksheet.
To set return print options, do the following:
- Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, and then click Configuration > Return configuration sets under Tax.
- Double-click a return configuration set on the navigation panel.
- Click Print Options on the navigation panel.
- Select the format options to use.
- If pennies are not enabled in the return configuration set or the return, amounts are rounded.
- Pennies are not shown in fields that are too narrow to display them.
- If electronic filing is enabled in a return, pennies do not print, even if they are enabled. Electronically filed returns cannot use pennies or cents.
- Select the print options.
- Suppress print. Suppresses printing of worksheets and vouchers for all copies of the return.
- Mandatory print version 1. Prints Version 1 of an estimated tax worksheet and payment vouchers when mandatory.
- Mandatory print version 2. Prints Version 2 of an estimated tax worksheet and payment vouchers, when mandatory.
- Print K-1 Multiple Activity Form (default)
- Print K-1 Multiple Activity Statement
- Suppress Multiple Activity
- Partnership. Partners > General Options > Schedule K-1 Print Options

- Select options to mask confidential field input when you print Accountant, Client, and K-1 copy types (Entire Return) and K-1 Packages. You can select to mask the entirety of the following or all but the last four digits of each one:
- Social Security
- Employer Identification
- Bank account
- Passthrough entity Employer Identification numbers in K-1 copies (available only for tax year 2016 and later returns)
Numbers are converted to asterisks when selecting this option or the Mask option when printing or previewing returns.
- Select the barcode identifiers to print on mailing sheets for bulk mail. The system combines the identifiers with a serial number that is produced by Tax and a routing code that consists of your firm's Zip code. Explain the barcode identifiers.
- Click Save to save your changes and continue working in the return configuration set, or click Save & Close to save your changes and close the return configuration set.

Print negative numbers in brackets |
Prints negative numbers in brackets. If cleared, a minus sign precedes negative numbers. Note: If electronic filing is enabled in the return, negative numbers print with a minus sign (-), even when brackets are enabled. The IRS requires that all negative numbers be shown with a minus sign in electronically filed returns. |
Print in uppercase only | Shows and prints return data in uppercase lettering. This options does not affect correspondence. |
Suppress auto sizing | Shows and prints return data in the default 12 pt font size and may prevent viewing data that exceeds a field. If this option is cleared, the system removes cents, then commas, and then gradually reduces font size when data exceeds the viewable area of a field until it reaches 6 pt. |

Does not print the cover sheets that normally print as the first page for each copy type. When selected, cover sheets are suppressed for all selected copy types in all return types. You can suppress the cover sheet for specific copy types and return types in the return print set. You can override this option in the return on the General > Return Options > Processing Options worksheet. Note: This option applies to tax years 2014 and higher. |
Option | Description |

Barcode identifier | Select or enter the barcode identifier that is used to encode the optional endorsement line (OEL). Generally, this field should be 00 if an OEL is not printed. The exception is for automation-rate eligible flat mail with an optional endorsement line. |
Service type identifier | Select or enter the Service Type Identifier (STID) according to the mail class and required service. See Service Type Identifiers on the United States Postal Service website for a complete list of STIDs. |
