ClosedInsert an external object to a print set.

To insert an external object, do the following:

  1. From an open return, select Print > Print Entire Return from the Application menu
  2. Click Customize to display the Customize Open Return window. If changes have occurred since the last calculation, the system prompts you to calculate the return before proceeding, or to continue the print process without calculating.
  3. Select an item on the navigation panel and click Insert External Object.
  4. On the File Open window, select an object and click Open. The system verifies the object is an acceptable file type and size. If the type cannot be inserted, the system prompts you to select another object.
  5. The Insert External Object window displays each copy type that contains the item you selected. The copy type from which you selected the item on the navigation panel is selected.

  6. Select each copy type in which to insert an external object.
  7. Click OK to insert the object behind the selected item and copy type.

Notes:

  • External objects you insert are saved with the return until they are manually deleted.
  • The system inserts the external object to the print set and not as a linked object. If you make changes to the external object after it is inserted, the external object in the print set will not be updated.
  • External objects must be less than 900 KB in size.
  • To change the position of the external object, return to the Customize Open Return window and use the up and down arrows to reposition a selected item in a unit on the navigation panel.
  • External objects you insert do not replace the requirement to attach PDF files to an electronically filed return. See Attaching PDF Files for Electronic Filing for more information.
