Using the Clock Management Window
Details of the most recently updated clock are displayed in the upper portion of the Clock Management window. The lower portion of the screen displays all your active clocks. You can select any active clock to view the details of that clock.
To manage clocks from the clocks list, do the following:
- Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, and then click Clocks under Time Capture.
- Select a clock from the list of your clocks. Explain the components of the clock.
- Select an action for the selected clock from the action buttons at the top of the screen. Explain the action buttons at the bottom of the screen.
- If the clock is running, click Pause to stop the clock.
- If the clock is paused, click Resume to start the clock.
- Click in the upper right corner to close the window.
Component | Description |

Clock Name | Displays the names of all your clocks. |
Status | Displays the status of the clock: Either paused or running . |
Elapsed Time | Displays the accumulated charged time for the clock. |
Project Name | Displays the project assignment for the clock if your firm has licensed Workstream. |
Workstep Name | Displays the workstep assignment for the clock if your firm has licensed Workstream Premier. |
Service Code Name | Displays the service code assignment for the clock. |
Invoice description | Displays the invoice description for the clock. |
Internal note | Displays the internal notes for the clock. |

Pause/ Resume |
If you selected Allow Clocks to Run Simultaneously in your Time Capture User Options, other clocks are allowed to run concurrently; otherwise, all clocks are paused when you restart a paused clock. |
Stop | Create a time transaction in Time Capture. The clock is deleted after the time entry transaction is successfully completed. |
Stop and restart | Create a time transaction in Time Capture. The elapsed time and start time are reset and the status of the clock is set to Running after the time capture transaction is successfully completed. |
Delete | Delete the selected clock. |
Open | Open the clock details for editing. |
To manage your clocks within Time Capture, do the following:
- Open Dashboard, click Application Links on the navigation panel, click Time transactions under Time Capture, and then click Clocks in the navigation panel.
- Do one of the following:
- Edit the active clock in the upper portion of the display. Explain the components of the details (upper) portion of the screen.
- If you are entering multiple transactions, this field will be prepopulated for a different client only if the new client also has a project with the same name.
- This field only displays if you have Workstream licensed and your firm has not hidden it.
- Select another clock from the list of your clocks in the lower part of the screen. Explain the components in the lower part of the screen.
- Select an action for the selected clock from the action buttons at the bottom of the screen.
- If the clock is running, click Pause to stop the clock.
- If the clock is paused, click Resume to start the clock.
- Click in the upper right corner to close the window.
Component | Description |

Client |

Note: You can select inactive, on hold, on litigation hold, prospect, provisional, or terminated clients only if you selected Ignore or Warning in Dashboard > Application Links > Firm > Settings and defaults > Practice > Time Capture Error Conditions. Project* |

Workstep* |
Enter text in the box. As you type, matching results display. If there is an exact match, it is highlighted in the grid. For more information, see Using Advanced Lookups. This option is only available if Workstream Premier is licensed. The list includes all worksteps for the selected project. Note: If you are entering multiple transactions, this field will be prepopulated for a different client only if the new client also has a workstep with the same name. |
Service code |
Enter text in the box. As you type, matching results display. If there is an exact match, it is highlighted in the grid. For more information, see Using Advanced Lookups. |
Work location |
Select the location you were working in while completing this transaction. The list includes all locations set up as firm preferences in Lists. Work location is used for tax calculations in some municipalities. Note: Firm settings determine whether this option will display. |
Custom field | If your firm has defined a custom field for Time Entry, see your administrator for additional information on its requirements. |
Invoice description |
Enter the description to appear on invoices for the resulting WIP transaction. Note: If your user option is set to use the Enter key as the Tab key, press the Enter key or Alt + V to save the text in the field, collapse the control, and move to the next field. If your user option is not set to use the Enter key as the Tab key, the focus remains on the Invoice description field. |
Internal note |
Enter a note associated with the transaction. The note is for internal use only and does not appear on invoices or other external documents. Start and stop times and elapsed time are added to the end of the internal notes. Note: If your user option is set to use the Enter key as the Tab key, press the Enter key or Alt + V to save the text in the field, collapse the control, and move to the next field. If your user option is not set to use the Enter key as the Tab key, the focus remains on the Internal note field. |
Save | Saves the changes for the selected clock. |
Clear | Abandons the changes made to the clock. |
