Overview of Portal User Types

Your portal user type displays in parentheses after your user name at the top of the Portal window. The Portal features that are available to you are determined by your Portal user type and the security roles that are assigned to you.

There are four Portal user types:

  • Firm User. A person employed by, or who represents, the firm that is providing the portal. Firm users are created by firm administrators. Firm users can be assigned administrative roles as well.
  • Firm Administrator. A firm user with rights to create and configure portals for clients. The initial firm administrator is created by Wolters Kluwer when a portal is created. Subsequent firm administrators can be created by the firm administrator.
  • Portal or client user. A person employed by, or who represents, the client. Client users have home pages that display information specific to the user. Portal users can be created by portal administrators or firm administrators.
  • Portal administrator. A client user who has the authority to create other client users, assign permissions, and modify the portal configuration.

Tip: We recommend that firm and portal administrators review the setup topics for their user type before beginning work with Portal. See Setup Tasks for Firm Administrators or Setup Tasks for Portal Administrators for more information.
