Electronic Filing Extensions and Estimates
For tax year 2011 and later tax years, you can electronically file Federal and State extensions in a batch process. Extensions that are included in a batch submission must have a zero balance to be filed electronically. The option to electronically file extensions is available only for the current tax year and only after extensions are available.
The state of Alabama requires tax preparers to upload extensions and estimated tax payments directly to the Alabama state tax authority website. To accommodate this requirement, Batch Manager provides you with the capability of exporting specialized state electronic files for Alabama tax returns in a batch process.
Reviewing Electronic Filing Status
Batch Manager offers two types of electronic filing statuses. One type is the status of the upload from Batch Manager to the Electronic Filing Status system (EFS). The other type is the status of extensions and estimates that have been released from EFS to taxing authorities.
Reviewing the Status of Files Uploaded to Electronic Filing Status (EFS) System
To view the upload status of extensions and estimates sent to EFS, do one of the following:
- In the Batch Manager Job Status grid, select your e-file job and click View on the Job Detail Report ribbon group.
- In Return Manager, use the Last Activity Quick Search filter to display returns in the grid by the Extension uploaded to EFS (batch) activity.
Reviewing the Status of Extensions and Estimates Released to Taxing Authorities
Filter the Batch Manager grid by the e-File Extensions and Specialized State job types to display the progress of return extensions and estimates that are electronically filed. The current status displays in the Job Status column.
