New Jersey General Information

The following forms are prepared for New Jersey:

Form IT-Estate is prepared when "NJ" is entered as the home state onthe federal Basic Data worksheet, Tax Return Preparation section, Home state field and a federal estate tax return is present. The automatic calculation of the home state return may be suppressed on the federal Return Options worksheet, Processing options section, Suppress automatic state return field. If New Jersey is not the home state, an entry must be made on the New Jersey Estate Tax worksheet to prepare Form IT-Estate.

Federal Form 706 and its schedules print with Form IT-Estate.

FS and State

The FS and State fields provide the ability to control which entries carry to the federal or state tax return.

** On multi-state returns, assets and deductions entered using this entry scheme are included on the federal return, the home state return and the indicated state return.

Enter the two digit home state on the federal Basic Data worksheet, Tax Return Preparation section, Home state field.

The first column is the FS code. The word "blank" in this column indicates no entry was made in the FS field. The only other possible entries are "F" or "S".

The second column is the state code. The word "blank" indicates no entry was made. "XX" represents the alphabetic state code.

The third column specifies the returns that will include the entries in the related fields following FS and state entries.

Authorizations

State business authorizations are used to calculate and print state returns.
