The St. Louis partnership return is prepared for calendar, fiscal and short year partnerships. Using entries from the federal return and on St. Louis worksheets, the following forms and schedules are produced for the St. Louis return:
A copy of the federal return (including all statements) is attached to the St. Louis return.
St. Louis Form E-8, Application for Extension of Time to File Business Earnings Tax Return, is required when the partnership returns will be filed after its original due date. The form can be requested in the following ways:
The State Interest Rate Overrides section of the Interest Rate Overrides worksheet under the federal Payments / Penalties category is available for overriding rates that apply to the calculation of late payment interest and underpayment penalty. See the federal instruction guide for further information.
St. Louis allows federal depreciation. State depreciation is calculated from your entries on the "Federal Depreciation and Amortization" worksheets. Your entries in the "State Depreciation and Amortization" columns are NOT used to calculate St. Louis depreciation.
The St. Louis return starts from federal gross income. You are not required to use FS codes to prepare a St. Louis partnership return. All income and expense items included on the federal worksheets carry to the St. Louis return.
Transfers: The following items are carried from the federal return and do not require additional entries on the St. Louis worksheets:
Federal, state and city footnotes entered on the Federal and State Footnotes section on the Notes worksheet under the Federal General category print on the St. Louis return. Also, federal, state and city footnotes entered on the Schedule K-1 Footnotes worksheet under the federal Partners category print on the St. Louis Schedule K-1 Equivalent. Use the FS, State, and City fields on these federal worksheets to control the printing of these footnotes on the St. Louis return. Refer to the federal instructions for these worksheets for additional details.
Use the "Suppress Schedule K-1" field in the Schedule K-1 Print Options Section on the General Options worksheet under the federal Partners category to suppress all state and city Schedules K-1 (or equivalents). See the instructions for that federal worksheet for more information. An entry can also be made on the St. Louis worksheet, General section in the "Suppress Schedule K-1 - override" field to suppress only the St. Louis Schedule K-1 Equivalent.
The St. Louis Schedules K-1 Equivalent are designated as final or amended if the same federal partner's Schedule K-1 is final or amended. In addition, if the St. Louis City return is final or amended, all Schedules K-1 are designated as final or amended. Use the Generic Partner Input section of the Generic State Schedule K-1 Information worksheet under the federal Common State category to override these defaults, or to designate a selected Schedule K-1 as amended or final.
