Form 1040X - Amended Return
Use The Amended Return worksheet to prepare Form 1040X. Amounts for Form 1040X are calculated from Form 1040. Original information is defined as the information shown on Form 1040 immediately before any entry is made on the Amended Return worksheet. Before making any entries on this worksheet, make sure the information shown on Form 1040 is the information that should be used as the original information on the amended return. Use Amended Return > Options > Transfer Original Information to hold the original information for the amended return.
If the Transfer original information field is blank, the Amended Return > Amounts From Original Return - Overrides and Original Return Overrides sections must be used to enter all information and amounts that are being amended. For example: If federal AGI was $110,000 on the original return but should have been $125,000, enter $110,000 in the Amended Return > Amounts From Original Return - Overrides > Adjusted gross income field. The Tax field and any other amounts affected by the Adjusted gross income field must be entered also.
If the Transfer Original Information field is entered, the Amended Return > Amounts From Original Return - Overrides and Original Return Overrides sections may be used to selectively override the information and calculated amounts.
The transmittal letter(s) only prints for units being amended. If there is a state being amended, the federal return is only mentioned in the transmittal letter(s) if it is also being amended. No filing instructions are prepared when the federal or any state return is amended.
